List: Subscriptions Swedes Canceled the Most in 2024
Anyfin AB•December 8, 2024
9 december 2024 – In 2024, many Swedish households began to see an improvement in their personal finances. However, despite this economic relief, the awareness of the importance of keeping track of expenses remains strong. A recent annual summary from the fintech company Anyfin reveals which subscriptions and memberships Swedes chose to cancel the most during the year.
The previously high inflation, which had long strained Swedish wallets, began to ease during the year. At the same time, many have become more mindful of what they actually use and what they are willing to pay for. Canceling unnecessary subscriptions has become a natural part of taking control of one’s finances.
Clear Trend: Cancellations in Memberships, Streaming, Audiobooks, and Gyms
Fintech company Anyfin launched its subscription service in 2022, allowing users to review and cancel their subscriptions directly in the app. This year's statistics show that memberships, streaming services, audiobooks, and gym memberships were the most commonly canceled by Swedes.
Here are the services canceled the most (share of approximately 2,100 cancellations in the Anyfin app during 2024):
- Hyresgästföreningen (Tenant Association): 6.6%
- Discovery+: 5.7%
- Viaplay: 5.7%
- Disney+: 4.0%
- Netflix: 3.5%
- Tele2: 2.9%
- Nextory: 2.9%
- HBO Max: 2.3%
- Storytel: 1.7%
- Fitness24Seven: 1.1%
The majority (25%) of all cancellations occurred in January and February. Users who canceled at least one subscription in 2024 saved an average of SEK 2,436 during the year.
"Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference"
"2024 has been a financial turning point for many, but it has also taught us that it’s always wise to review your expenses," says Felix Sjöholm, financial health expert at Anyfin. "Saving a few hundred kronor a month by canceling unused subscriptions is a simple measure that makes a big difference for both your wallet and your peace of mind."
Felix Sjöholm, Anyfin’s financial health expert, holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg. He has previously worked as a client manager and analyst at various companies in the financial industry.
